DR DYLAN GILBEY

Clinical Psychologist

Dr Dylan Gilbey (he/him) is a clinical psychologist with a masters and PhD in clinical psychology from the University of Western Australia. He has worked in eating disorders since 2021 across both private practice and public hospital settings, and has conducted research projects focused on mental health and wellbeing in LGBTQ+ youth. He is a member of the Australian Psychological Society (APS) and is a credentialled eating disorder clinician.

Dylan sees all ages 12 and up and people with all eating disorder diagnoses. He has a particular interest in working with people who are experiencing severe and enduring eating disorders and/or who have co-occurring complex trauma histories. He has a lot of experience working with people who are neurodivergent and people who are trans or gender diverse, and with common concerns co-occurring with eating disorders such as depression, anxiety, suicidality, gender dysphoria, perfectionism, and emotion dysregulation. Dylan is able to do assessment and letters in support of gender-affirming care, such as initiation of hormone therapy and surgery.

Dylan has training and experience in the following therapies:

  • Adolescent-focused therapy (AFT)

  • Family-based therapy (FBT)

  • Enhanced cognitive-behaviour therapy (CBT-E)

  • Cognitive-behaviour therapy for ARFID (CBT-AR)

  • Specialist supportive clinical management (SSCM)

  • The Maudsley anorexia nervosa treatment for adults (MANTRA)

  • Schema therapy

Dylan's approach is  warm, patient, and genuine, and seeks to balance evidence-based practice with appropriate flexibility and meeting people where they are at in their recovery journey. Dylan's practice is aligned with the principles of Health at Every Size (HAES).

Dylan is able to do appointments in person or via telehealth on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
